I was fortunate enough to be in New York in May and we decided to celebrate with a Mother’s Day Tea at the Blue Box Cafe at Tiffany’s NYC! Mother’s Day and my birthday fall in May making for a double celebration and I’m always grateful if I get to see both my kids around that time.

If you have seen Audrey Hepburn’s 1961 film, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” Hepburn’s character Holly Golightly stares into the window displays while eating a croissant out of a paper bag at the beginning of the movie. Since May of 2023, after the flagship Tiffany and Co. store reopened after a gorgeous renovation, star chef Daniel Boulud’s Blue Box Cafe has made it possible for us fans to eat a real breakfast or lunch, or enjoy an afternoon Tea at Tiffany’s on the sixth floor.
We stopped by after spending some time at the MOMA and I was truly wowed by the experience!

The Blue Box Cafe®, The iconic Restaurant at Tiffany’s
The Blue Box Cafe® is on located the 6th floor of the iconic Tiffany & Co. flagship store on 5th Avenue. Walking into the store was breathtaking. Fresh Flowers and beautiful jewelry displays! Head to the back to take the elevator. When you step off the elevator on the sixth floor, you’re in the home department of Tiffany & Co. with beautiful tableware. You can find some exclusive items that can only be found in the Flagship store.
The entrance to the Blue Box Cafe® is towards the back. Once seated and in the tiny but well-decorated space, the hostess offered us the menus. The restaurant has only approximately 15 or so tables. It’s adorned with the iconic Tiffany’s trademarked blue, with jewelry boxes hanging from the ceiling and splashes of color accents on the floor.

It has a sophisticated vibe– of indulgence. There was no real dress code, but most people were dressed up. Being in the Tiffany building carries a sense of luxury. A place for celebrations or just for joie de vivre!
The architect Peter Marino and his team gave life to the vision that Tiffany & Co. and chef Daniel Boulud both had. The Bernardaud plateware [a porcelain maker from Limoges, France] and the Riedel glassware used at the cafe are exclusive collaborations that Peter Marino’s team did. The pretty china is exclusive to the restaurant.

The silverware is from Tiffany & Co. The cafe also has artwork around the dining room by Molly Hatch that was commissioned. They have a great Champagne list and our wines feature smaller producers, covering both Old World and New World wines.

If you are celebrating, you can even order a Tiffany Blue “celebration cake” in advance. To do this you first need to have a reservation, then email the restaurant more than 48 hours in advance of the reservation. Choices are vanilla cake with seasonal fruit or chocolate with caramel. We didn’t know so we just ordered one of the house specials – Rose Litchi with white chocolate blossoms. They brought it out with a slab of chocolate personalized with the Happy Birthday message.
The menu features Breakfast at Tiffany’s for $68, and Tea at Tiffany’s for $98 per person along with some ala carte items.
