Afternoon tea has always been one of my favorite ways to slow down and celebrate special moments. On a recent visit, we had an extra reason to make it special—our daughter had just started her first job and decided to treat us to afternoon tea at The Adolphus Dallas.

WHAT IS IN THIS POST
A Special Afternoon at The Adolphus
Over the years, we’ve enjoyed Mother’s Day teas in Dallas at places like the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek and at Taschen at the Joule [a favorite]. Each one is special, but this one was particularly meaningful. Not only is tea at The Adolphus iconic, it was the first time we were guests of honor at a tea hosted by our daughter.
The Setting: The French Room at The Adolphus
The Tea at the Adolphus is served in the beautiful French Room dining room. A storied tradition. Walking into the French Room at The Adolphus Hotel, you immediately feel transported. The gilded details, twin Italian Murano Glass chandeliers, reupholstered Louis XVI style chairs, ornate sconces, and and the flower arrangements set the perfect stage for an afternoon of tea and treats.

Sitting there with my husband and daughter, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of gratitude—this wasn’t just a tea service, it was a milestone moment in our family.
The Tea Selection
The menu offered a variety of fine teas, from classic Earl Grey to fragrant jasmine and herbal infusions. I opted for a floral rose black tea, while my daughter chose a refreshing green tea with citrus notes. Each pot arrived in delicate china that made the experience feel even more celebratory.

The Savories and Sweets
No afternoon tea is complete without dainty sandwiches and pastries—and The Adolphus Dallas tea service did not disappoint. Guests can enjoy a three-course menu of tea sandwiches, scones and pastries paired with loose leaf teas from a local purveyor.
- Tea Sandwiches: Cucumber with dill cream cheese, smoked salmon with capers, and chicken salad.
- Scones: Served warm with clotted cream and house-made preserves—soft, buttery perfection.
- Desserts: Mini éclairs, macarons, and fruit tarts that looked almost too pretty to eat.

We started with a glass of bubbly. Tea sandwiches and sweet treat were presented on elegant three-tiered stands, the food was delicious and beautifully prepared—worthy of such a special occasion.
Why Afternoon Tea at The Adolphus is Special
For me, tea at The Adolphus wasn’t just about the menu—it was about the moment. Sitting in the French Room, sipping tea while our daughter picked up the check, I realized this was a turning point. A small but profound reminder of how traditions evolve and how sweet it feels when your children start creating new memories for you.

It’s no wonder many consider The Adolphus one of the best places for afternoon tea in Dallas—but for us, it will always hold a little extra meaning.
