Vegamót: A trendy Bistro Bar in Reykjavik, Iceland

While shopping on Laugavegur, in the heart of Reykjavik we asked one of the young sales associates where to eat in Reykjavik, Iceland, what her favorite restaurant in town was? She said Vegamot is where she goes with her friends for brunch or drinks and dinner with friends. So we decided to give it a try. After getting some locally made woolen products like scarfs, beanie, Lava rock whiskey stones and of course some puffin souvenirs we took her word and stopped at Vegamot in Reykjavik, Iceland for dinner.

Vegamót, a trendy bistro in Reykjavik, Iceland

Vegamót is a trendy two floor bistro-bar, located in the heart of the Reykjavik on Vegamótastígur, directly across Mál & Menning, a large bookstore on Laugavegur. We loved browsing around in the bookstore as well where Ms. Teen found some antique cards and cute prints of Reykjavik.

The place was pretty crowded for a rainy night, so we waited at the bar while waiting for our table. I tried an Iceland mule – well it was a Moscow mule really with Rekya vodka! You have to ask for it or the standard vodka is poured. Reyka is a small batch vodka handcrafted in Iceland and made with arctic spring water from a spring that runs through a 4,000-year-old lava field. The lava rocks naturally filter the water making it some of the purest in the world.  Vegamót had a great list of interesting cocktails like Chili-passion mojito, Rhubarb No 10 among other usual ones.  Kids loved their virgin drinks.

Standard bistro fare like hamburgers, nachos, pizzas were on the menu. Plus a few chefs special like Louisiana chicken strips, Sesame fried noodles with chicken, Salmon and a Vegan Nut steak that I had my eye on.  The Vegan Nut steak is served with peanut sauce, Morocco salad with tangerines, olives and herbs – Unfortunately they were out of it and I had to stick to the noodles.  We loved our meal at Vegamót and would be going back there to try that Nut Steak next time we are in Reykjavík!
