One of our favorite things about Switzerland is how easy it is to combine cities with nature. You can spend the morning exploring Zurich, take a scenic train into the Alps, and be watching sunset over an alpine lake the very same evening.

Geneva
Switzerland’s most international city sits on the shores of beautiful Lake Geneva, where elegant waterfront promenades, historic streets, and world-renowned organizations come together. While many travelers use Geneva as a gateway to the Alps or neighboring France, it’s well worth spending a day or two exploring.
We find ourselves in Geneva for the horology and it makes it easy to get here from Milan or Paris. Plus Geneva is a great location for day trips to nearby spots… we have been to Annecy and Chamonix so far and loved it.

Our Hotel Experiences in Switzerland
Some of our favorite memories of Switzerland are tied to the wonderful places we’ve stayed over the years. On our very first trip, when our kids were just 8 and 4, we checked into the beautiful Grand Hotel National in Lucerne, where lakeside walks and nearby mountain excursions introduced us to the magic of the Swiss Alps.

Years later, we returned as a family and stayed at Badrutt’s Palace in St. Moritz, where the kids were old enough to appreciate the incredible hiking, alpine adventures, and the timeless elegance of one of Switzerland’s most iconic hotels.

Most recently, it was just the two of us enjoying a quieter escape at Hotel Bristol in Geneva, perfectly located for exploring the city’s historic streets and lakeside promenade. Looking back, it’s been special to experience Switzerland through different stages of our lives, and each hotel has become part of the memories that keep drawing us back.
