We spent two unforgettable weeks exploring Norway…from the colorful streets of Bergen to the breathtaking landscapes of Lofoten, Geirangerfjord, and Flåm… and quickly learned that Norwegian weather changes by the hour. One minute you’re enjoying sunshine in a T-shirt, and the next you’re reaching for a waterproof jacket as mist rolls in from the fjords.
Having the right clothing, and reliable luggage, made all the difference.
For this trip, we traveled with the Level8 Carry-On and Level8 Checked Luggage, and after multiple flights, ferry crossings, rental car transfers, and hotel stays, they proved to be excellent travel companions.

Dress in Layers
One of the biggest lessons we learned was to forget the weather forecast.
Norway’s weather can change several times a day, especially around the fjords and mountains.
Our daily outfit usually looked like this:
- Moisture-wicking T-shirt
- Lightweight fleece
- Packable down jacket
- Waterproof rain shell
By afternoon we’d often remove two layers, only to put them back on for an evening cruise.
Don’t Skip the Rain Jacket
Even on sunny days we carried our waterproof jackets.
Weather systems move quickly through the fjords, and short rain showers are incredibly common.
A lightweight waterproof shell takes almost no room in your suitcase but quickly becomes one of the most-used items on your trip.
Shoes Matter More Than You Think
Even if you’re not planning major hikes, you’ll likely walk much more than expected.

What to Pack for Norway in Summer (June–August)
Summer is one of the best times to visit Norway, with long daylight hours, green valleys, blooming wildflowers, and easier access to scenic hikes and fjord experiences. But don’t let the season fool you—Norwegian summer weather is still unpredictable.
During our two weeks in Norway, we experienced everything from warm sunny afternoons in Bergen to cool, misty mornings in the fjords. In Lofoten, we could be comfortable in a T-shirt one moment and reaching for a jacket the next.
The key to packing for Norway in summer is versatility. Instead of bringing bulky clothing, pack lightweight layers that you can add or remove throughout the day.
Our Level8 Suitcase Review
For this trip, we packed everything in our Level8 luggage, including a checked suitcase and carry-on.
After flights, airport transfers, rental cars, ferries, and countless hotel moves, the luggage still looked remarkably good.
What We Loved
Smooth Wheels
Norway involves a surprising amount of walking through airports, ferry terminals, train stations, and cobblestone streets.
The 360-degree spinner wheels rolled effortlessly across nearly every surface.

One feature we appreciated every time we repacked was the thoughtfully designed interior.
The compression panels kept clothing organized, while the zippered compartments made separating clean and worn clothes much easier during our two-week road trip.

The built-in TSA-approved lock gave us extra peace of mind when checking luggage between flights.
Perfect Size for European Travel
Our carry-on easily fit overhead on flights within Europe, while the checked suitcase held enough clothing for two weeks without becoming excessively heavy.
Comparing Level8 with Away and TUMI
We’ve become something of a luggage family over the years. Our kids have long been fans of Away and love its clean design and durability, while my husband still prefers his TUMI for its premium construction and business-travel features.
For this trip, though, I decided to give Level8 a try, and it has quickly become my favorite.
What immediately caught my attention was its understated, modern design. It feels premium without being flashy, but the feature I appreciated most was the front-opening compartment.

- Umbrella (the wind made rain jackets much more practical)
- Too many outfits
Norway is wonderfully casual, and comfort always wins.
Final Thoughts on Level8 Luggage
After taking our Level8 luggage through airports, ferries, scenic train rides, and thousands of miles of driving around Norway, we’d happily travel with it again.
The suitcases were lightweight, durable, easy to maneuver, and thoughtfully designed for travelers who move frequently between destinations.
