Ooty also known as Udhagamandalam, is a resort town in the Western Ghats mountains, in South India. Founded as British Raj summer resort, this area in Tamil Nadu is one of my favorites and I love riding the train that runs on a steam railway line.
Photos from a day trip to Ooty and Coonoor tea estates in Nilgiris in TamilNadu, India!
Kings cliff – where we stopped for tea in their Sunroom. Kids loved the apple pie here. The garden was lush and green.
Ooty botanical garden has a great selection of plants and flowers I haven’t seen anywhere else in India.
A boat ride on the Ooty lake is a nice way to spend an afternoon.
No trip to Ooty is complete without a ride on the toy train as we call them. It is called Nilgiri mountain railway these days – goes through tea estates, bridges and tunnels. It is a slow train based on the rack and pinion system similar to the ones in Switzerland.
We of course had to stop at a tea estate and sampled some masala tea!
