The 80 rooms at the Yeatman are themed after historic wineries. Every single one of them has a balcony with beautiful views. The hotel houses the only Michelin-star restaurant in the Porto area and a large wine cellar and wine shop. They also have a full gym with all the equipment plus a nice kids’ club.

The Best Part: Location & the View

The luxury boutique hotel sits on the south side of the Douro River, in the historic port cellar district on Vila Nova de Gaia, across the river from Porto proper. While Porto’s attractions aren’t within walking distance of the hotel, it is peaceful and less touristy. This is what we look for in a hotel!

All the Porto attractions across the river are only a 15-minute walk away or you can always take a taxi. Porto International Airport is around 20 minutes away by car and the Atlantic coast beaches are a 15-minute drive away.

Set amidst the Port wine lodges, The Yeatman nestles on a hill, overlooking Porto and is set within 7 acres of land, and has outdoor and indoor infinity swimming pools, a lovely Spa.

Rooms and Suites

From the outside, The Yeatman resembles a picturesque Portuguese villa but once inside it has an English country house charm.

Rooms and Reviews of The Yeatman, Porto | Outside Suburbia

We had two adjacent rooms and our rooms had a perfect view over Porto City and Rio Douro. Rooms were a mix of classic English and Portuguese styles with wooden floors and classic English furniture. The walls of the rooms were colorful, a pretty and soothing shade of turmeric. Bathrooms had traditional Portuguese ceramic tiling in the showers with touches of luxury, including marble sink tops and Caudalie bath products.

Since we were traveling during the holiday season our amenities included some holiday treats, a bottle of wine and other baked goods. I also loved their selection of curated books in the room.

We enjoyed the bottle of Taylor Port wine! The cellars at the Yeatman in fact houses over 1200 different kinds of wines, of which 95% are Portuguese.  The hotel corridors have several display that proudly exhibits the country’s wine history.  Even the elevators are designed with wine-related theme.

Restaurants at The Yeatman

You can’t escape indulging in the Gastronomic experiences at the many restaurants in the Yeatman, whether it is at their Michelin restaurant, Orangerie, or the Bistro Bar. Even the room service meals were top-notch – well presented and scrumptious!

If you are traveling during the warmer months, make the most of the lovely warm weather from the spacious terrace and enjoy the idyllic scenery overlooking Porto and the River Douro over a glass of wine, cocktail or tea. Dick’s Bar & Bistro serves light meals, afternoon tea and cocktails.

The Orangerie offers an alternative experience in a relaxed à la carte dining experience. Breakfast is a buffet affair, that is elaborate and not to be missed. We tasted many Portuguese desserts here!

Barrel Bath experience & Spa

The Spa at The Yeatman has some wine-based offerings. They offer what is called vinotherapy — spa treatments that use the grape bits leftover in the wine-making process.

Opt for the unique Barrel Bath experience where you can relax in an amazing jacuzzi made from a wine barrel while enjoying a stunning view over the city. The bath water is mixed with red wine grape extracts and essential oils, this is supposed to improve blood, lymph circulation and reduces inflammation and swelling. It sounds pretty magical doesn’t it?!
