Villon restaurant located inside the artsy and chic Proper Hotel in San Francisco serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu is inspired by San Francisco’s culinary culture and its local and seasonal ingredients. Villon is another beautiful space created by interior designer and owner Kelly Wearstler. The name while inspired by the modern French artist Jacques Villon, it is pronounced “villain.” With its beautiful blue walls and touches of copper and gold the decor, it is a beautiful place for a meal. Villon is one of my new favorite places to eat in San Francisco.

I had been wanting to try the Japanese inspired Okonomiyaki – savory Japanese pancake, as it is not a dish commonly served at Japanese restaurants. We missed out on it during our recent trip to Japan. We ended up going across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito for dinner and didn’t get to try them. Maybe on the next trip to SF!

While we didn’t have dinner here, we had breakfast and enjoyed drinks at the lounge. We ordered fresh orange juice, cappuccino, avocado toasts, ricotta cheese pancakes for breakfast. Everything came prettily plated and was delicious – the lemon zest on top of the avo toast was a delicious touch.

Aren’t the proper ice cubes pretty awesome?! We had some drinks at the lounge after dinner and ordered desserts. We had the Chocolate mousse with black sesame, cocoa nibs and beets – no photos of it because ‘chocolate’ travels into tummies faster than light in our household.

Although I loved the interior of the hotel, it is located at the intersection where Tenderloin meets Market Street so not the most pleasant area for an after dinner stroll. Best to drive or take an Uber, or drive, there is a valet at the door.

Make sure to make a reservation if you are planning to go during the weekend. Villon was voted the most beautiful restaurant by SF Eater and hope the pictures show you a glimpse as to why it is well deserved.

Most pictures taken with an iPhone, I was there to eat not photograph the place but couldn’t help myself 😉
