Big Sur is more of a region than a town or city, it includes approximately 90 miles of coastline from Carmel-by-the-Sea down to San Simeon and extends 20 miles inland to the Santa Lucia Mountain Range. The region is known for its stunning coastline, charming towns, its redwood forests and many State Parks. Part of the Alila group and you can book through the Hyatt properties, Ventana Big Sur Glampsite in California is an adults-only resort that has been on my wishlist. Kids are welcome for lunch, so we drove up to check out the view and the resort. Sneaky yes, but can you blame me!?

Last summer we spend a week exploring parts of Nothern California from San Francisco to Carmel by the Sea. We drove down through Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park and stopped at Julie Pfeiffer Burns Park, which features the tall and narrow McWay waterfalls that seem to flow right out of the rock.

Even if you are not into big long hikes there are plenty of short hikes and easy walks that take you to gorgeous viewpoints and secret coves here. The park is also home to 300-foot redwoods some of which are over 2,500 years old. We then had an unforgettable lunch at Ventana Big Sur Glampsite located right on a cliff where the Pacific Ocean meets the Californian forest.
