The Churches of St. Anastasi<\/strong>. The 3 Blue Domes set against the blue ocean have made their appearance in postcards and many photos of Santorini.<\/p>\n\n\n\nThe popular church is located in the west of Oia, south of the main promenade which runs through the city (from the caldera). With characteristic blue domes, they are one of the most photogenic churches in Oia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are many more blue dome churches around the town, though to get to this iconic church, walk down the famous Gold Street alleyway of Oia town, and you\u2019ll eventually find this outlook of the church. The golden hour before the iconic Santorini sunset gives off a gorgeous light to capture some photos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 3 blue domes of Anstasis Church<\/em> are probably the most recognizable domes in Greece. Countless Instagram photos are taken at these famous Santorini spots every year. Be sure to arrive at most of these church locations early as many people flock to these places around sunset to get their own pictures.<\/p>\n\n\n\nOur vacation photographers helped navigate, took us down a less known pathway, and found spots away from the crowds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/figure>\n\n\n\n<\/span>4.<\/strong> Oia Castle<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\nThe famous view from the castle of Agios Nikolaos includes the sparkling Aegean sea, the impressive volcano, and the blue horizon. The best view from the Oia Castle is during sunset when the colors change, especially over Amoudi Bay, you can see the backdrop of the Oia buildings along the cliff twinkle with lights as the sun sets and the sky darkens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/span>5. Kastro Oia Houses<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\nLocated right next to the cliffside, this light pink\/orange colored hotel is so picturesque. Chances are you have probably seen this popular Oia spot all over Instagram. It is one of the most popular place to take Santorini pictures. Not only is it located in a prime sunset area, but the view behind it is also incredible. Be sure to stop by earlier during the day as it gets extremely crowded around sunset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/span>6. Oia Windmills<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\nThere are two windmills on the Western side of Oia that attract crowds of spectators in the evening. These are some of the most famous photo spots in Santorini. Watching the sunset here is truly a magical experience. If you are not looking for a sunset picture, this spot is a lot less crowded during the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/figure>\n\n\n\n<\/span>7. Fira Village<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\nFira town is on the western edge of the island and has a little more happening – you will find many cafes, retail stores, and varieties of small hotels and accommodations. Fira is the capital town of Santorini and is essentially the heart of the island <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are two cathedrals in Fira that are worth visiting and the gorgeous architecture and outlook make for some great photos. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist overlooks the ocean, and open all the time. It is hard to miss the peach-colored fa\u00e7ade, finished with blue touches. The church has a tall bell tower, which also serves as a clock tower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of Fira is located in the lower part of the city. From the cathedral, you can get an excellent view of the Santorini volcano and caldera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/span>8. Skaros Rock<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\nAlso known as Skaros Fortress or Castle Skaros, this collection of rocks and ruins offers incredible views of the surrounding Greek islands and ocean. A large promontory rock and popular photo spot, it is located on a walking path from Imerovigli to Agios Ioannis Chruch. There is a well-defined trail that originates from the renowned Agios Georgios church that connects Skaros with the village of Imerovigli. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/span>9. Imerovigli Village<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\nOffering panoramic views of the sea, Imerovigli is another must. The quaint village is built on the highest point of the caldera and it is said to be one of the best viewpoints in Santorini. Sunsets here are surreal!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imerovigli is one of the best spots for sunset photos because of the beautiful views of the sparkling water and lush green mountains from the clifftops. Plan for dinner in one of the restaurants here, after a photo session during golden hour! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
View of Ammodi Bay and the Windmills from our Sailboat<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<\/span>10. Ammoudi Bay<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\nDown the cliff from Oia is Ammoudi Bay. If you are going on a sailing trip (which we highly recommend) this is where you will need to go. You can sail through the caldera on a morning or sunset catamaran tour to see the red and white beaches while experiencing the Mediterranean ocean. Capture some photos of the cliffs of Santorini from your boat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/span>Other Things to do in Santorini<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\nVisit Akrotiri Lighthouse<\/strong><\/li>Book a Sailing trip around Santorini\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>Go on a winery tour and try some local wine<\/strong><\/li>Explore the capital, Fira<\/strong> the Capital of Santorini<\/strong><\/li>Visit the ruins from the prehistoric settlement of ancient Akrotiri <\/strong><\/li>See the frescos in the Museum of Prehistoric Thera<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\nIf you have time for a hike, a popular trail from Fira to Oia<\/strong>\u00a0offers a unique hiking route with some of the best viewpoints on the Caldera. It is about 10 km long and it usually takes up to 5 hours. It is considered a fairly easy hiking path and it is beginner-friendly.
